Edmund | Dulac

Edmund Dulac was born in Toulouse, 1882. He was most famous for his inspiring and multi-faceted story book illustrations.  Dulac moved to London in 1904, settling in London’s Holland Park and from there he was commissioned for editions of the works of the Brontë sisters, Edgar Allen Poe, Hans Christian Andersen and William Shakespeare.

His work was rooted in tales both ancient and modern, drawing influences from middle and far eastern traditions of illustration.  Dulac’s use of watercolour allowed him to create a dreamlike atmosphere in his work, adding an undeniable mystery and magic.  He is considered to be one of the greats of the Golden Age of Illustration
