Various famous paintings & depictions of owls

I have always loved their rounded tactile shape and big, character-filled eyes. There is something about owls that speaks to the child in all of us I think. And since my own childhood I have collected little interpretations of owls and have come to use many depictions in my designs. But owls have inspired so many cultures, religions and artists throughout history: Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Hindus, and in coins, ceramics, paintings, jewellery. They have always held a special place in human beings’ hearts, it would seem.  

Owls have been used as symbols of intelligence, psychic wisdom, the harbingers of change. The were said to offer protetction and help with the smooth transition for life’s more difficult journeys. And (my particular favourite) they were often seen as spritiual guides to attaining connection to a Higher Power.
